I am trying to find a birth and death record for-my paternal grandmother.

Kathleen Kelly - all the information I have on her is on the back of an old photo. Apparently she died in 1967 was near 70years old could have been in Dublin or Co Laois?.She had a sister called Norah and a brother Christ/ Christy. They were Roman Catholic and she had one son who was born In Ballyrider Co. Laois.

I found a 1911 census with a Kelly family in Ballyrider Stradbally with the names Kathleen, Norah, Christy and other names. Could not find them on 1901 census. Have I got the correct family?

I have looked on different sites eg. Irish geneology, Ireland. Net. and I have just joined Ancestry to start a family tree.

Any advice, help would be welcome

Based on your info, I think you have the correct family. I also did not find the family in the 1901 census and possibly there is a gap in records and the Ballyrider records are not on the site. I did find the birth record for Cathleen.

See first record for 1895 birth of Cathleen Kelly. Mother was Julia McEvoy.

Did Cathleen/Kathleen marry? We have access to death records online thru 1970 and will search when you let me know if she was a Kelly or had a married name.

  • She never married. She was also known as Kathy.

I never thought to check with the spelling of KATHLEEN.
If you could look for me that would be great.

    Thank you

  • I have looked at the birth record for KATHLEEN and underneath it says Elizabeth Born to Julia. So Kathleen had a twin?
On the 1911 census it lists a daughter Lizzie but her age is 18 and Kathleen is 16. It also says on that census that there is a child not living.

Could they have Lizzie age wrong. I know that sometimes they would name another daughter after a deceased daughter.

I did not notice Elizabeth's birth record. Strange that the census age is two years earlier than Kathleen. I did not find an earlier birth record for Elizabeth.

I think I located the death record.

See last record  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retur...  The age is overstated but I think this is the record.

  • Hi Roger

I have just tried clicking on the link above but it keeps telling me server page not found. I was okay on the other link.

Can you let me know where you found the information on her death?

    Many thanks

  • Thank you for sending the link again.

I am now totally confused. According to the 1911 census Kathleen was 16 and the photo I have says photo taken in 1961, Kathleen Kelly was near 70 years and died in 1967 RIP. This photo was sent by a 1st cousin of my dads.

The death certificate I have looked at says she was 83years old in 1965.

Maybe I need to find a Birth/ Marriage/ Death certificate for this cousin. I know she died 9.10.95 and is buried in Moyanna Cemetry. ???

I had commented earlier that the age on the death record appeared to be overstated. The informant was a religious sister and maybe she did not know how old Kathleen was. Maybe it is not the correct record but the person on the record appeared to be from Ballyrider Stradbally.
