I am searching for information on my 2x gr grandfather Cornelius Kennedy he was born 1818, he married Margaret Kennedy in 1846, Dingle Parish. His address is listed as Lispole on marriage record. Their first child Michael Kennedy was born in 1847 in Clooncurrah, Dingle. Sponsors listed on birth record for Michael are a Cornelius Kennedy and Johanna Kennedy.

  • Hi Suzie,

Records prior to 1820 in St Mary's parish (RC) are practically unreadable. St Mary's parish covers Lispole to Ventry. I did find the references you have BUT also lots of other Cornelius Kennedy's. I looked at the 1901 census for Clooncurra but the Kennedy's were gone by that time. There are still many Kennedy's in the area but to identify which is related would be very difficult unless you have more receint info.

I have added some map references following to give you a sense of location.  SEE: https://www.logainm.ie/en/22717?s=Clooncurra  AND http://sites.rootsweb.com/~irlker/civparlist.html (CIVIL PARISH) and http://sites.rootsweb.com/~irlker/kinard.html (townlands in Kinard)

Sorry could not be of more help.

  • Thanks Jim, Yes I forgot to mention they left in 1847 for  Vermont and then moved to Canada. I have been fortunate with DNA testing to have located where Margaret Kennedy was from ,Cooumduff.

    Thanks again,

  • Hi Suzie,

Yes, there are still Kennedy's in Coumduff near Annascaul. As a matter of fact my wife is friendly with a number of them and one is my butcher. Annascaul is not in the Dingle Parish so they have their own records.

    Have you visited the area?

    Regards

  • Hi Jim, I thought I would mention my 3x gr grandparents were Thomas Kennedy and Mary Cournane, he had a brother Patrick and their parents were Tigue/Tadqe (Timothy) Kennedy and his wife Margaret(Biddy) Harrington from Coomduff. Just in case your butcher is familiar with those names.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Jim,

I wanted to mention that one of my closest DNA matches is a Dr. Anne Kennedy originally from Coumduff and her mother is Elly Kennedy from Annascaul.

  • Hi Jim,

I suspect Cornelius's father may have been named Michael. I did find a record for a Michael Kennedy and Mary Griffin from Lispole that had a son named John in 1825. My Cornelius had a son Michael and John. I know it's a long shot but I do have quite a few Griffin's that I match with DNA. Is there any chance we could find a record? Cornelius's and family left Clooncurrah around 1847, because the next baby was 1848 in Vermont.

    Thanks for all the help!

  • There is an Eily Kennedy in Coumduff near Annascaul. You might get in touch with he through Dr Anne Kennedy.

I did find a record -baptismal for John Kennedy 18/05/1834. Father Cornelius, mother Catty Kennedy - Clooncurra.

This is all I can suggest.

  • Hi Jim,

Thanks for looking! Dr. Anne is on my Margaret Kennedy side of family. I've been fortunate to receive a Kennedy family tree of my Coumduff family going back to the 3 Kennedy boys that arrived from Tipperary back in the times of Cromwell. Where I'm stuck is with my Cornelius Kennedy from Lispole, he was born in 1818. All of my DNA matches for Lispole aren't on gedmatch.  I appreciate your efforts.
