I am searching for information on my branch of the Kerrigan family who lived in Country Westmeath. My paternal grandfather, Owen Joseph Marey Kerrigan, was born in Kilbeggan on 22nd October 1889. His father was Dr. Owen Patrick Kerrigan, born 15th March 1854 in Mullingar (died 10th January 1931). From census records I see he lived in Kilbeggan and Chuchtown. He married Mary Josephine Toole (or O'Toole) in Rathtown on 26th July 1882. Next generation back is Laurence Kerrigan (1813-1876) and wife Dorothy Caddle (1818-1877). His father, also Laurence, (born c1770) married Eliabeth Lester of Mullingar (1776-1833). Dr. Owen Patrick's brother, Lawrence Aloysius, was also a doctor and the local coroner.

You have done very thorough research on your Kerrigan line. Please consider adding Dr. Kerrigan and his father to our XO Chronicles site  https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy

Is there any other information you are seeking on your Kerrigan line?

  • Thank you for the prompt response and I will certainly post the information you suggested. I was hoping there might be some Kerrigan relatives still living in Mullingar or surrounding area. I did see that there is a Kerrigan bar in Mullingar.

The online Irish phone book https://www.eirphonebook.ie/q/name/  which only includes land lines has a few Kerrigan records near Mullingar. Use the Residential Tab when you search and you may want to send a letter to these folks.
