Greetings, I am looking for any information on the Kirby family of Knockainey and Emly. Information I have is that Maurice Kirby, born abt. 1800, claimed his home parish as Knockainey on his marriage record when he married Mary Ryan at Hospital Parish on Feb. 13, 1825. I surmise that his father may have been John, as Maurice's first born son was named John. I have discovered there is a John Kirby on 1833 tithes.
In the 1901 censes there is some of the family living in Emly, where they apparently operated a dry goods store.
Maurice and Mary Kirby raised their children in Emly and most of their children immigrated to Ohio, USA, in the mid 1800's.
Catherine Kirby b. 1838 is my gr. gr. gr. grandmother and lived till 1931. In my youth my older relatives would share their memories of her.
Thank you, K Bender

Thank you for contacting Knockainey through the irealndxo website. We, the Community Council, have established a Community Office in Knockainey, and John and Anne Marie who work there are currently working on research for the Week of Welcomes which takes place here from June 28th to July 1st. They are helping to trace the descendents of those who left here over the years, and it is a possibility that you may be part of that Knockainey diaspora! We will look at the church records on your behalf, and perhaps we can throw some light on your enquiry. You can keep in touch with the office at knockaineycommunityoffice@gmail.com. Of course, we would like to invite you to Knockainey for our Welcome weekend June 28th to July 1st; it would be great to meet you then if you can make it.
Kind regards,
Mary O'Grady

Hi there
In the Emly parish records the following were born to Maurice Kirby and Mary Ryan.
02/09/1830 John, 08/09/1833 Michael, 28/04/1836 Margaret, 28/10/1838 Catherine, 14/12/1841 Mary, 15/10/1844 Maurice 06/10/1845 James.
I can't find a birth record for Maurice in Knockainey; however, the records only begin in the early 1800's and record-keeping was far from comprehensive initially. In addition, Maurice may have been older than 25 when he married, and that would put his birth outside the church records at any rate.
Kirby is a family name in Knockainey, and you have definite proof that Maurice came from here, as he gives it as his residence at marriage. You are of Knockainey!
Regards
Mary

Hi again Mary, I've just realised that you will be very familiar with my Dineen research from 24 years ago as you actually did a lot of the work as research assitant for the late Dr Chris O'Mahony. He was without a doubt the best genealogical researcher in Ireland. Looking forward to catching up with you again in June

To Desdineen:
Dear Sir,
It was actually I, not Mary, who was inquiring about the Kirby family. I am very interested in your research. Would I be able to attain a copy of this research? Thank you.
