Hi there,

My Nana said she believes her grandfather is buried in this cemetary (I am unsure of how to spell it). Thomas Larkin d.8 Feb 1935 and Sarah d. 1 Dec 1923. How would I go about locating these? She lives in Boston now.

Thanks,

Kayla

  • I found a Find the Grave site locating Ard na Moran (in Irish, Ard na mBodhran) northeast of Ardrahan:

      https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2472783/ard-na-moran

The site says that it is in a place called Mannin, but I could find no such place.  To judge by the map link at that site, the location is somewhere near Rathcosgrove/Rathcosgry, which is on the R347 road about 4 miles northeast of Ardrahan.  You can find Rathcosgrove on Google Maps, and if you search Rathcosgry on Google Earth, you can see the same area. I couldn't spot the graveyard itself on Google Earth, but I suppose if you get to the Rathcosgrove/Rathcosgry area, someone should be able to point the way.

  • Hi Kayla,

I am currently attempting to research those buried in Ardnamoran which is located in the townland of Mannin about 5km south from the village of Craughwell. Rathcosgrove is the townland beside Mannin. Yes it is possible that your Nana's grandfather is buried here. There is no headstone for Thomas Larkin but there are two headstones for Larkin here. One of these is Patrick Larkin (died. 25 Feb 1967), who I believe is a son of Thomas and the other is Thomas's nephew Martin Larkin (died. 27 Sept. 1963). There are still descendants of Larkin living in the area. The graveyard is surrounded by fields but it can be accessed by opening gates and walking through the fields. There is a sign on the road indicating its location. If you would like photos or more information please let me know.

    Regards,

    Niamh
