I was searching for Rodger McDermott, I believe in the Tibohine register at NLI, and found a listing for 30 November 1834 that read "Purificari uxorum Roderici McDermott de Turlagh". Google translate says "purification of wives". Does anyone have experience with this latin phrase and how it was applied?

Kelly:
I went to the Tibohine/Fairymount register and found a November 30 1834 baptism for a McDermott child with parents Michael McDermott and Eleanor Drury. I could not read the name of the child but I also did not find the Latin phrase you mention.

It may have to do with "Churching" of the mother. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Churching_of_women

I was able to relocate my finding. It's actually pg 82 of the Elphin and Creeve Baptisms(1825-1843) not the Tibohine register. If you have any further insight after veiwing. I'll look into your "Churching" suggestion. Kelly

I saw the entry and it appears to be for a Roderick McDermott of Turlagh. There is a Turlagh townland in Creeve civil parish. The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Creeve civil parish shows a Peter McDermott in Turlagh. Likely he is connected to Roderick.

Thanks Roger, while I got your attention, your advice please on another matter. Cemetery records, headstone inscriptions, etc. What on line resources does the Ireland XO advisers rely upon? My region of interest is Co. Roscommon and Mayo.

I usually check out historicgraves.ie or findagrave.com For North Mayo, the Goldenlangan site is very helpful
