  • Robyn:

It is possible that John and Margaret left from Co. Cork but were actually residents of another county. I had searched two sites: subscription site Roots Ireland and the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie for Co. Cork baptismal records and only found one record for a Margaret Lawlor with father John. The details are below. However, I did not find baptismal records for any siblings of this Margaret Lawlor including a John..

Margaret Lawlor baptized June 22 1856 Youghal RC parish father John Lawlor mother Mary Baker

Are you aware of the names of any other siblings. Have you located the death record for Margaret which might show her mother's maiden name?

Have you considered a DNA test which might give you matches on your Lawlor line?

  • Thank you, Roger. I don't think this is the correct Margaret as think the mother was Kathleen as 1 of the grand daughters was named after her and was always said she was from County Cork. My daughter had a DNA done but not much help. Her brother John was older than her and she was 15 when they came from Ireland. I have not been able to trace his family even though I know he once lived in St. Louis also. The Irish side has been frustrating to say the least. Too many Irish by the same names came at the same time. The Hickey side has been even sparcer. Pity they were as easy to find as my side which are English/Australian and German/Australian side.  Visited Ireland in 2003 and what a beautiful country.
