Josias Kennington was the Reverend Kennington for St Nicholas Within during the late 1600's. Several of his children were buried in the church. According to the Alumni records of Trinity College, Dublin, Josias was the son of Thomas Kennington, who originated from Lincolnshire. I'm carrying out a surname study for Kennington, and have been looking at the Irish instances of the name - it is a very Lincolnshire-based name, although it orginated from one of 3-4 places in the South East of England in the 1300-1400s.

If you have any information regarding Rev Kennington, then please do get in touch! Thank you.

  • Hello Nicki, I am looking over unanswered queries and see a number of births and burials here between 1675 to 1800, click on Church and insert the surname and location Dublin, I searched 1600 to 1800 and earliest is 1675. https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

It is a free site but sign in, also the Church Representative Body Library may have some info too, https://www.ireland.anglican.org/about/rcb-library

Oddly I live in county Louth and understand it is from Louth in Lincolnshire, also on my maternal line I have the surname Thomas in the west of Ireland and if memory is correct there is an architect Thomas in the Directory of Irish Architects  from Lincolnshire also, so not unique for what ever reason.

    Regards
