Hi,
I am trying to add my Great Great Grandfather to my family tree and have a hit a massive brick wall. The information I have for him is this:
His name was William Murphy and he was born I believe in 1821 in Wexford. His wife is believed to have been named Mary Scanlin who is believed to have been born in Roscommon. Her date of birth varies from 1821 to 1826.
They left Ireland for Liverpool and had a son called Edward, who I believe was born in 1854 who I can find no records for in Liverpool, although that is where he is believed to have been born. He married my Great Grandmother Mary Ellen Walsh from St Helens in 1876 and they went on to have 7 Children. My grandfather, Thomas Murphy was born to them in 1887 and married my grandmother Catherine O'Donnell in 1911.

Faithanne:
I searched on the subscription site FindMyPast and located many (40+) William Murphy baptismal records around 1821. Without knowing the parents names, we can't confirm any of these records. However, since Edward was the name of his oldest son, I looked for any records where the father was Edward and found two:
William Murphy baptized December 4 1820 father Edward Murphy mother Mary Delany parish Kilmore
William Murphy baptized September 6 1827 father Ned Murphy mother Nancy (no last name) parish Rathangan
Scanlin/Scanlan/Scanlon was primarily found in the southeast of Ireland in the mid-19th century although there were a good nunber of Scanlin families in Co. Sligo. The numbers in Roscommon were small. I did search the subscription site Roots Ireland and the only record I located from 1821-1826 was a Mary Scanlon baptized October 15 1826 in Castlerea RC parish father Thomas Scanlon mother Brigid Seree. Keep in mind that many RC parishes in Roscommon do not have records back to the 1820s.

Hi Roger,
Thank you for doing that for me. I will certainly take a look at both names and see what I can find out and if of course they fit into my family.
