Hi,

Recently, I came across a clue that my Bagley (sometimes spelled Begley ancestors) came from Westmeath and possibly from Mullingar.  My g-g-g Patrick Bagley was born c. 1800 married Catherine Gairn.  Their children were: Thomas (my g-g grandfather) born c 1834, Margaret b 1835, Mary 1836, James 1838, John 1842 and Lawrence 1843.  They migrated to the US and settled in Cranson Rhode Island.  Do any of the church records go back far enough to find their baptisms or Patrick's marriage to Catherine?  Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

    I searched for a marriage record and baptismal records for your ancestors on the subscription site Roots Ireland but did not find a record. (I actually searched for all of Ireland).

    I assume your ancestors were Roman Catholic. Most of the RC parishes in Co. Westmeath including Mullingar have records back to the early part of the 19th century. A few parishes have records that start later. Here is a link to the parish register for Mullingar. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0937     There are gaps in the records.

    Any other family info?

    My Bigley ancestors in Co. Westmeath were often referred to as Begley. They were largely based around Athlone in both Co Roscommon & Co Westmeath

    Just might be worth checking Bigley as well. They appear in both RC & C of I church records as well.
