  • The 1815 Mothel/Mothell marriage is Church of Ireland, at the time it was part of a parish union which covered the civil parishes of Kilderry and Kilademoge in addition to Mothel. Marriages usually took place in the bride's parish, but I dont see anywhere in the Mothel parishes named Bilboa or similar... maybe a local name, or the name of a house or estate nearby..

The latest RCB Parish list shows that they hold the historic records for the parish of Mothel and that these cover back to about 1800, possibly not far enough to show any further information of your Cole family if this was their parish. The notes also mention that some historic record were lost..

There is a townland and house/estate named Bilboa near Cappamore in County Limerick, but it's quite a distance away from Mothell Co. Kilkenny .. abt 80km

  • It looks like Bilboa, Co. Carlow is on the border with Co. Kilkenny and the Mothel Parish is not far away.

I've seen marriages outside of their home county in nearby counties just across the border, especially from Co. Carlow.

Richard Fennell was from Coen, Co. Kilkenny so the chose to get married there.
