Hello.

I'm looking to locate in Ireland James F Finneran (born abt 1841, died 1919 in Massachusetts, USA), and his wife Ellen Moran Finneran (born 1838, died 1919 in Massachusetts, USA).  They were married in either 1860 or 1863 (two census's disagree), but I don't know if that was in Ireland or the US.

I've looked in all the usually recommened places online, including national archives, etc.  I've stopped by the Irish Family site within the EPIC museum, but didn't really come up with much.  I don't have a pointer to any particular county, parish, or an immigration record for when they came into the US, but they and their families were certainly around the eastern Massachusetts area, so Boston may be where they came in.

I've also see "Fineran".  Their children were James Francis Finneran, Winifred Elizabeth Finneran, Mary Monica Finneran, and Ellen Agnes Finneran, all born in the US.

DNA on ancestry did point me to Munster, and probably eastern Beara peninsula, so we were able to visit there on our trip to Ireland, to at least get a taste beyond Dublin.

I appreciate any advice folks might have.  Thank you very much.

Finnerans are mainly found in Roscommon and Galway.

On Ancestry, I located an 1874 Naturalization petition record for a James Finneran. This James Finneran was a bootmaker from Medway Massachusetts. He indicated that he came to America (NYC) in 1853 and that he was born June 19 1836 in Co. Roscommon. So likely James married Ellen Moran in America.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland in Co. Roscommon and the only 1836 baptismal record was January 10 1836 in the Boyle RC parish father Hugh and mother Rose Donelly.

There is no guarantee that James Finneran in 1874 provided a correct year of birth particularly since he was showing 1841 in other documents so the 1836 record I mentioned is not likely. There were 7-8 other James Finneran baptismal records in the 1830s in Co. Roscommon. Also, there are RC parishes in Co. Roscommon which do not have baptismal records back to the 1830s which means if James was from one of those parishes, a record would not exist.

Let me know if you have any questions.
