  • Ronald,

There aren’t any Congregationalist churches in the Donaghmore area. If that was the family denomination in Canada, I’d guess they were Presbyterian in Ireland. (So likely to be descended from Scots who settled there in the 1600s).

Donaghmore has 2 Presbyterian churches, and they have records as follows:

    Carland

    Baptisms, 1759-99 and 1847-1986; marriages, 1770-

    1802, 1826-8 and 1845-1914.

    Session minutes, 1754-1801.

    Castlecaulfield

    Baptisms, 1855-1947; marriages, 1834-1919; session

    minutes, 1855-

I note the first child was born in Coleraine c 1801. None of the 3 Presbyterian churches there has any records before the 1830s. There is a Congregationalist church on Coleraine but again it has no records prior to the 1830s.

Copies of the Donaghmore Presbyterian records are held in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. They are not on-lien and a personal visit is required to view them.
