Trying to trace Edward Fitzpatrick born in Ireland circa 1790. He married in Whitehaven, England in 1813 to Margaret Knowles. He died in 1866 in Wigan, Lancashire aged 80. Possibility he was born in Cavan but nothing certain at this stage.

  • Did you try to obtain an English marriage record, this might have the parents mentioned.

The name Fitzgerald is quite common in Ireland and knowing the parents names would make a search a lot easier, also take note that civil registration did not take place till 1864 in Ireland

My advise for now would be to check all U/Scotland  census records up to 1861 and try and get all English vital records in order to get more clues , even a death certificate should provide more detailed information about Edward.

  • Hi Mallow

Thanks for your response, I haven't got an actual copy of the marriage certificate but I know when and where it took place soI I shall email them for more information.  I do have a copy of the death certificate but no details help me trace his place of birth.  He does appear on the 1841 and 1851 censuses but place of birth is simply given as Ireland.

I have a tenuous link to Cavan and the fact that he appears to have moved to Whitehaven a opposed to Liverpool may suggest being from the northern county.

Thanks again for your advice, I will push on and hope to track him down.

    Regards

    Gerard

  • Hi Annemarie

Thanks again for your response, however, the ancestor I am researching is Edward Fitzpatrick not Edward FitzGerald. I shall register with RootsIreland on your advice and would be happy to buy credits if it helps me track Edward down.

Thanks again for your support and would welcome any further advice or assistance,

    Kind regards

  • Oops very sorry about that, but I did look up the records for Edward Fitzpatrick but wrote down the wrong name here, rootsireland does have 4 records for the name and one marriage record, allthough the marriage can not be him as I searched with the 1790 date.
