My great grandfather Peter Hogan was born in 1820's?. There is a baptismal record for a Peter Hogan August 15, 1828. Milford Parish. Father is Samuel and mother is Mary Ryan. According to myfather, Peter's father's name was Simon. Peter named his first son Simon so I am pretty sure that is correct. Perhaps the baptismal record is not legible. I would like to be able to say that This is Peter's baptismal record. If so he was probably born in 1828, Peter had a brother, Christopher. They both immigrated to US - Ohio then settled in Minnesota.
I recently found some Ireland Valuation books- 1846 and 1848 with a Simon Hogan in Balleyspellane North and am hoping that is Peter's father. I have tried locating that townland, but am not able to find it. Perhaps it was incorporated into another town.
Peter married Julia Farrell, dauthter of Richard and Mary, also from Ireland , possibly Eglish parish but most lilely one close to the Hogan's. I think they may have married before immigrating. Richard and Mary had a son Michael. Their family also located in the same town as the Hogan's in Ohio.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Mary,
My name is Dawn. That townland you are referring to is Ballyspillane, in Killarney, Co Kerry. Unless there is another townland of that same name. My father, Christopher Hogan, is from Co. Kerry. We had plenty of family in Killarney as well. To this day, I still have Hogan first cousins who live in a small town called Cahersiveen. One of my uncles is named Peter as well, but who knows if our Hogan’s are connected? The Irish were very traditional in their naming and there were so many Hogan’s in Lower Ormond, that a song was written to tell them all apart. In the next week or two if you write me back, I can get online and see what I can find for you.

Hi, Mary please look at this link of Ballyspillane.......
https://www.townlands.ie/tipperary/lower-ormond/uskane/aglishcloghane/ballyspellane-north/
If you click twice on the - (to zoom out) you will see the town nme Borrisokane, as you look up the orange road you will see two faint lines, these are roads, the second line, this is Ballycasey, My cousin visits every year from the USA, he is a Hogan. I know the family (John and Norah) lived there when they married, the father originated from Kileen, another town land near by.
John's Father also a John was married to Sarah Hogan (she was from Kileen)
Norah's Mother Margaret was my Great Aunt, my Grandmothers sister.
It may take me a few days to get back to you, but I will try and find the connection to your names listed.
There were a lot of Hogans in this area and Hogan marriages to Hogans that were not related.
Cheers

Thank you for the responses. I know that my Hogans were from Tipperary so not sure if the Simon I referred to is our relative.I also know that my father mentioned the parish of Eglis but am not sure if it was a Catholic or civil parish and it could have been on the Farrell side (Peter;s wife Julia Farrell) Thank you Margot for the map!. I have searched many times for Balleyspellane but have not been successful.Peter Hogan came to New Lexington, Ohio in about 1860 before moving to Minnesota. Looking forward to any information available that can help me trace my Hogan/Farrell roots. Mary

Simon Hogan in the early Tithe records, no year stated so it would be before 1823.

You mentioned Milford Parish, Milford is an area and is next to Ballyspillane.
Mary, the 1911 Census, has Honora Hogan as the head of the family, also a nephew was living with them, Morgan Freenane, I search for a marriage Freenane and Hogan and got this……
Maria Hogan’s father as Cornelius, he must have been Simon’s nephew or great nephew.
Cornelius’ death
