Hi my name is Tina and I am looking for information on my Grandma Mary Bridget Murray, Ancestry says her birthdate was January 4th 1924 in Roscommon , my family had 1923 on her gravestone. She passed away on October 19th 2015 in Vancouver British Columbia Canada. She migrated to Canada late 1956 early 1957 and was pregnant with my dad while on the boat. She didn't like talking about her life in Ireland very much as she married a Welsh man and apparently they were forbidden to marry so they left the country after marrying. Any information would be amazing. Thank you so much
Tina

Tina:
Unfortunately, the Irish government has privacy rules related to sharing of civil records. There is a 100 year rule on birth records so currently the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie only has civil birth records thru 1919 with 1920 records to be added in the near future. For marriages, there is a 75 year rule so we have access online to records thru 1944.
If you knew the parish where she was baptized, you could write to them to see if they would look up her baptismal date assuming you have her parents names.
Did Mary Bridget have older siblings born 1919 or earlier? We could try to look up the civil records if you know the parents names.

Hi Tina,
Was Murray her birth name or married name?
If her married name, what was her birth name?
Do you know when she married? was it in Ireland?
Children's names?
Husband's name?
Any siblings? names?
Does her death certificate give her parents' names? Are you sure the Ancestry birth record is the correct one? There were many Mary Murrays in Roscommon.
Her family may have forbidden her to marry the Welsh man if they were of different religions.

Does her death certificate give her parents' names? I will have to look into this alsoAre you sure the Ancestry birth record is the correct one? There were many Mary Murrays in Roscommon. I think the one on her grave was most likely correct, her middle name was Bridget.
Her family may have forbidden her to marry the Welsh man if they were of different religions. Yes I believe this to be the case.

Have you looked at Canadian birth, marriage, and death records pertaining to the Llewellyns? Obituaries, death notices, wills? Newspaper articles, city directories? They may have information about your grandmother. Also, it is likely other grandchildren are living--perhaps you might make contact with them? They may shed light on her. I hope this helps!
