Looking for My Corcoran Ancestor's Information

Hello!!! Hope everyone is well and stays that way! I'm new to this website, but I think I'll enjoy it. I'm looking for any information that people may have about my ancestors from this County/parish what have you. Last name is Corcoran. My 3rd Great Grandfather was John Corcoran 1836-1893 born in (June 1836 ) and died here in the states in Buffalo, NY. I don't have the name of either of his parents, but I do have a census from April 2 ,1911 that he resided there. Also, I have his wife's name as Maggie unsure of maiden name and they married in 1870. Henry and Matthew L. If I find more information that may help anyone identify this part of the family I will definitely update it!!
Much love, Kim

  • Hi Kim . . .

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out . . . .

    Using " Roots " (paid serch engine) . . .

    When I had a look at " Timogue "  . . . I'm presumimg that this is a Townsland of a larger Town/ Village . . . possibly Portlaoise / Rosenallis / Stradbally

    Timogue (Tigh Maodhóg) , Barony of Stradbally, Co. Laois . . . . . . as found on . . . https://www.townlands.ie/search/?q=Timogue

    MAP . . . (see below)

    ____________________________________________________________________

    So . . . where would your John Corcoran . . . have had his Birth registered . . . ????

    When I search Ancestry . . . (see below) . . . the one which tops the list . . . is in Mountmellick. Laois . . . .

    https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0717 . . . . this is the Parish Register ...R,C, . . . here . . . you might find the Parents names . . . IF . . . you find HIM  .. . .

    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________-

    So . . when I search " Roots " . . . they throw up  . . 6 /J.Corcorans . . . for Laoise . . . period 1831 - 1841 . . .

    ONE only for the 1836 date . . . ( see below -  Corcoran (Roots) . . . AUGUST . . . !! . . .

    _________________________________________________________________________________

You indicate in your query . . . JUNE

    _____________________________________________________________________

    So . .  .the TWO below . . . point to the same person  . . . only one born 1836 . . . Ancestry // Roots

    as registered in. . . .  MOUNTMELLICK

    Next I serched for a MARRIAGE . . . . on Roots . . . 1870 . . . Spouse . . Margaret . .  .NOTHING (for Laoise) . . .

    then I searched ALL Ireland . .. . and surprise surprise . . . a Marriage . . . appeared (see below ) for WATERFORD county . . . a long way . . in those years from Laoise.

    ______________________________________________________________________________

    So . . here's a question . . . . Could your John Corcoran . . . be from Co.Waterford.  . . . . Stradbally, Co,Waterford . . . ???? ( map below)

    by coinncidence . . . there is also a Stradbally .Co.Laoise . . .

    I dont have a definite answer . . .

    When I search " Ancestry " for a Corcoran . . emigrating to the U.S. . . after 1870 . . .  a MRS J. Corcoran shows up ( see below) in 1885 . .

    ___________________________________________________________________________________

    So . . next I llooked for HENRY . . . searched Roots . . . in Waterford Co . //   Laoise . . . NOTHING

    BUT . . . when I search Ancestry . . . a HENRY . . crops up . . . back up in Co. Laoise ( see below)

    Search . . MATHEW . . .(see below)

    _____________________________________________________________________

    So there you have it . . . Best I could do . . .

I hope you can nuggets in there somewhere . . . . personally it leaves me confused . . .

    Was it Laoise .  . . or   Waterford . . . or Both . . .

    __________________________________________________________________________

    Cheers . . . Eamonn.
