My great great grandmother (Helen/Ellen) was born in Montreal of a father (Patrick Cline) and Mother (Margueritte Gil) both from Ireland. I would like to find which part of Ireland they were from.

Hi,
Thank you for your message. Do you have any other information that you could share, such as any important dates to help narrow down the timeframe you are looking at? The names of Patrick and MArgueritte's parents etc.
Do you know much about Patrick and Margueritte's emigration? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival. If you knew where they arrived in Canada you could look into these and hopefully find an exact place of origin. For immigration information in Canada check the National Archives and Library of Canad at http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html
You could also try running the surnames through the Irishtimes surname search. This gives information on the number of households with specific surnames that were in Ireland during the mid 19th century. This may help you narrow down an area if there are not too many results returned. You can search here:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/
You could also do a search at https://familysearch.org/
Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,
