Hello,

I am looking for more information about Peter Campbell and Mary Meehan/Mahan Campbell.  According to birth records I have found, they had at least two children born  in Bawnboy, Co. Cavan:  daughter Bridget Campbell b. 9 Nov 1866 and twin brother  Bernard Campbell b. 9 Nov 1866 (his birth record says Ballinamore, Leitrim - even though they must be twins based on birth date!).  I am specifically interested in whether or not this couple would have had an older son, Peter Campbell (Junior) born in 1861-1865 (as he would be my direct ancestor).  I am also interested in any other children they may have had (and when) and if any family stayed behind in Ireland or left for America.  My Peter Campbell Jr. moved to Providence, Rhode Island at some point before 1886, when he married Catherine Clarke (my great, great grandmother).

Catherine and Peter Jr. had at least nine children, and one was Bridget (my great grandmother) and one was Bernard, which makes me think they were named after aunts and uncles from the previous generation.  Grateful for whatever you may be able to find.

Thank you!

Kerrin

  • Hi Kerrin,

Bernard and Bridget (Twins) were born in Tully - see www.irishgenealogy.ie - Page 43 - 1866 - entries 21 and 22 in the Civil record. The confusion arises when the civil registration district does not correspond with the home address. Tully townland in County Leitrim is in the Barony of Carrigallen and in the Civil parish of Outeragh, Poor Law Union of Bawnboy.

Church records show baptism in Outeragh on November 12th 1866.

The only other family member, apart from Peter, Junior was Margaret - Baptism: December 1st 1854.

Marrriage record for parents not found.

Civil Registration began in Ireland from January 1st 1864

    Regards,

    McCoy
