Hello,

I am looking for more information about Peter Campbell and Mary Meehan/Mahan Campbell.  According to birth records I have found, they had at least two children born  in Bawnboy, Co. Cavan:  daughter Bridget Campbell b. 9 Nov 1866 and twin brother  Bernard Campbell b. 9 Nov 1866 (his birth record says Ballinamore, Leitrim - even though they must be twins based on birth date!).  I am specifically interested in whether or not this couple would have had an older son, Peter Campbell (Junior) born in 1861-1865 (as he would be my direct ancestor).  I am also interested in any other children they may have had (and when) and if any family stayed behind in Ireland or left for America.  My Peter Campbell Jr. moved to Providence, Rhode Island at some point before 1886, when he married Catherine Clarke (my great, great grandmother).

Catherine and Peter Jr. had at least nine children, and one was Bridget (my great grandmother) and one was Bernard, which makes me think they were named after aunts and uncles from the previous generation.  Grateful for whatever you may be able to find.

  • Hi Kerrin!

In addition to the Peter record that McCoy found, Roots Ireland also has a Margaret Campbell baptized December 1 1854 in Outeragh. Father Peter Campbell Mother Mary Meehan

There was also a January 20 1854 marriage record for a Peter Gamble and Mary Meehan in Outeragh.

The parish register for Outeragh/Oughteragh parish on the NLI site has records starting in 1869 so Roots Ireland later worked with the parish and found records back to 1841.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0816
