Hello!

My paternal great grandfather was Luke Charles Ryan, born in Quebec, Canada, in about 1867. His parents were Patrick Ryan (born about 1821, likely in Kilkenny Ireland, died about 1902 in Farrelton, Gatineau, Quebec, Canada) and Bridget Joyce (birth year unknown - likely in Kilkenny, and died before 1902 - likely in Farrelton, Gatineau, Quebec, Canada). Patrick and Bridget Ryan were married in Muckalee, Kilkenny in July 1840 and had 7 children (that I know of...) - some born in Ireland and some born after they emigrated to Canada in about 1860. Luke Charles (called Charles) married Mary Agnes Sullivan in Quebec in about 1883. While still in Quebec, they had two children, then in about 1890, moved to Wisconsin, USA. They had three more children (my grandfather, Charles Ambrose Ryan, Sr. and two sibilings). In about 1908, the family returned to Ontario Canada, and I have not found further records of Luke Charles Ryan after the 1905 Wisconsin State census.

  • It is very likely that Bridget Joyce was from Muckalee, Kilkenny, couples usualy got married in the home place of the bride

According to a record on Ancestry Patrick Ryan died 28 July 1902 in Canada.

  • These are two wonderful pieces of information that will give me a direction to keep looking! I appreciate your time! The Ryans have been very illusive for me, and with limited relatives living here that I know of, it's even harder!

    Again, my thanks!
