Hello, I am looking for any information regarding my great grandfather William Mason, born 23rd February 1862, Trim, Meath. He joined the 5th Royal Irish Lancers in Dublin and served in Mhow, India where he lost his life in 1889. His wife died the previous month, also in Mhow. Their deaths left my grandmother and her younger brother orphaned.
I think William's father may have been Christopher Greenwood Mason, he may have had a brother John Hollingsworth Mason and a sister Jessie.
I am hoping that somebody may have a link to our family or know some local history that may connect us.
Thank you for any help that can be given, it will be very m uch appreciated.

Barbara:
Civil registration of births started in Ireland in 1864.
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a baptismal record for a William Mason with father Christopher anywhere in Ireland. I also looked at the William Mason baptismal records (without using Christopher) in Co. Meath and did not find any records around 1862. The only record of interest was a February 1 1854 baptismal record (born October 8 1853) for a Margaret Mason with father Christopher and mother Margaret. The record was in the Trim Church of Ireland records.
You did not indicate a religious denomination. However, the RC records and Church of Ireland records for Trim are both included on the Roots Ireland database.
The 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Trim civil parish included a Christopher Mason in Kilmurry townland. Likely this is your ancestor.
I also found an 1864 civil marriage record for Jessie Mason to George Lewis. Jessie was listed as a minor on the marriage record so she was less than 21.
