Hi

I am trying to trace Anthony Lynskey and Catherine Lynskey

Not sure why, but a fair few of my Irish Ancestors just literally disappear, having said that its likely my pure ignorance of researching Irish Records. One person in particular that seems to have vanished is Anthony Lynskey or Linskea (depending on the record and transcript).

Anthony Lynskey born about 1841, Glenmore, Mayo, Ireland. He was married to Catherine Doyle 29th January 1873. They had 3 children Mary, Bridget and Kate. Anthony and Catherine appear on the 1901 and 1911 Census, in Erris Street, Crossmolina North, Mayo, Ireland.

Bridget and Mary went to the USA, Kate sadly passed away relatively young, never married.

Catherine passed away as a widow 1920 in Ballina, and buried in Kilmurray (still yet to find Catherine final resting place, thats another story).  The death registration was signed by Robert Hastings her son in law

Anthony Hastings, I cannot find at all, his death registration or Certificate etc. I have tried all connotations with his name, dates etc, nothing. I have emailed North Mayo Heritage and they cant find anything. I have emailed local Churchyard/cemetery and parishes, so far no response.

Anthony and Catherine both appear on the 1901 and 1911 Census, in Crosmolina

In brief I am trying to trace the death date of Anthony Lynskey born about 1841, Glenmore, County Mayo.  He likely died prior to 1920 as Catherine his wife died in 1920 and was recorded as a widow

Catherine Lynskey (nee Doyle) who died 1920 , Crossmlina, Ballina and I believe was laid to rest in Kilmurry.  I am trying to find which Cemetery

THank you

  • Muddipaws:

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and the earliest Anthony Lynskey record was in 1867. I think your Anthony Lynskey was baptized in an RC parish that no longer has records back to 1840. There are a number of Mayo parishes which have records starting later than 1840.

Regarding his death record, there is a good possibility that his death was not civilly registered since your search (and mine) did not locate a record in the 1911-1920 period.

I created an Ancestry tree for my friend, the great granddaughter of Anthony “Tony” Linskey  Linskea and Catherine Doyle. My friend gave me input from notes and family letters. I fleshed people out using records available on Ancestry.  I will follow this post in the hopes that you get replies from the Churchyard/cemetery and parishes.                                      Regards,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Mary
