Hi all,

My Mahon's are from Co Longford. Due to the time frame, I only have birth records of my grandfather Patrick's (1900) generation and my GGF Thomas' (1858) generation( including siblings) . For my 2x GGF Edward, I only have his name and marriage record (1856), and have not been able to go further.

They were RC and most records were from Dromard. I only have one obituary, it is for my  grandathers brother Thomas in 1975. It states his service was held at Moyne Church, and funeral at the adjoining cemetary.

I am trying to determine which church and cemetery was my families, as I would like to write to them to see if I can obtain any family information. During my research, I have read that people have had sucess obtaining information in doing this.

Due to proximity, I was initally thinking it would be St. Mary's Parish, but it seems there are several. With my great uncle's obituary stating Moyne Church, and adjoining cemetery,  would that indicate that that is my family church/cemetery?

I have read that it was important to be buried in the family cemetery, even if you were living elsewhere. Would that still be the case in 1975? Or was it no longer the norm in 1975?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • Hi Roger, I just realized I never responded. Thank you.

I knew it was in Moyne, but I kept getting different names, and places, and all leading to one website where they just had video sermons, no address, phone or email. It was very confusing. I finally muddled through the name changes and locations to the correct church. But your link has the only contact information, so very helpful. Thanks!
