I am searching for information regarding my great great grandparents, Bartholomew Mahoney, born circa 1805, and Elizabeth Cliggott, born circa 1822.  As far as I know they had 6 children: Catherine, born 1848, Mary, born 1850, Daniel, born 1854, Margaret, born 1856, Bartholomew, also born in 1856 and Patrick, born in 1862.  I believe Elizabeth's parents were John Cliggott and Abigail Molen.  I am certain there are other decendants of this family, but I am unaware of them.  I have noticed that the surname Cliggott can be McElliott. Am I mistaken?  Also, how would I find what Barthololew did for a living?  Thank you for any assistance you are able to give me.

Seems to confirm your theory of the interchangeable surname.

The marriage record isn't on roots but the National Library has the R C registers freely availabe at registers.nli.ie/; Mitchellstown marriages start in July 1845 there. www.irishgenealogy.ie/ (Church records) is good for Cork records too

Bartholomew's occupation - this link http://www.failteromhat.com/ has a couple of 1846 Mitchellstown Commercial Directories you could have a look through in case he was a businessman.

    Dear Col,

Thank you so very much!  Your assistance and guidance is of great help to me.  I didn't know about Ellen Mahoney.  Also, I think Mary, born in 1846, must have died before 1850, because my great grandmother was also Mary Joseph, born in 1850.

    Again, thank you very much,

    Margaret
