I need help to find information about some relatives.

My 2nd great grandmother was named Julia Malloy.  She married Joseph Heueisen in Denver in 1881.  Her marriage certificate indicates she was born in County Mayo.  I do not know who wrote her obituary, but it indicates:

She was born in March 1858 and her father was Thomas Malloy

She emigrated around 1868

She lived in Chicago for five years before her family moved to Denver

I know that Julia's mother's married name was Bridget Malloy and her headstone indicates she was born about 1822.  The family story is that Bridget's maiden name was Garrity (sp?).

I know that Julia sisters were named Annie, Nellie and Bridget and her brothers were John and Thomas.  I believe her siblings were all born in Ireland.

I have recently been told by a very distant relative that the Malloys might have been from Kilmeena or Castlebar.  I have not seen any proof of this.

Is anyone able to find information about this family and where they lived in Ireland?

If not, do you have any suggestions about sites I should use to do my research?

There is some information to indicate that some of the family traveled from Ireland to Canada before they went to Chicago.  Do you have any suggestions about sources to research this?

Thank you for your help.

  • Dave,

I haven't found any records in Ireland for your Malloy family yet. Trying to find their immigration record. Joseph's actual first name was John per records I found on Ancestry. On Ancestry, per the 1880 census, Bridget Malloy 1815 (widow) was living with Nellie 1855 and Bridget 1857 in Denver. Nellie and Bridget were dressmakers. Julia was living there at another location as a servant. In 1930, Bridget 1857 was living with her sister Julia's family. I will continue my research.

    Regards- Mary
