Hi, Patricia D. Mulholland here searching for the Family of Maggie Gillespie born Feb 1868-1870 in Killybegs, Donegal, Ireland, parents Harry Gillespie and Margaret Campbell.  She immigrated to the United States and may have naturalized by 1887.  I would appreciate any help locating our family.  I’m a great grand daughter. Thank you!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I found a civil birth record for a December 23, 1865 birth for a Margaret Gillespie with parents Henry Gillespie and Margaret McCallin. This family lived in Drumanoo townland in Killybegs Upper civil parish (the civil record shows Drimanoo but I believe it is the same townland.).

Is it possible that either you don't have the correct surname for the mother or the registrar made a mistake with the name?

Did the whole family emigrate or just Maggie?

  • Hi Roger,

Thank you for reaching out with this response. I made DNA match to Colin Doherty in Killybegs although they seem to need township information.  His daughter recalls Campbell’s.  Also I have a DNA match to Patrick Byrne who’s mother was Ellen Gillespie.  It is difficult for me to say if Margaret came alone or with her family but from the look of it she came alone.  I’m certain I’ll be looking for more help but thank you again for the help you gave me. Patty
