I am searching for information on Margaret Reddington and James Silk parents. Margaret was b: 1819 Ireland, Andrew Silk in 1809 Ireland. They were married on May 6 1841 Loughrea Galway. They had 11 children, 2 of which were baptised in Carrabane Co. Galway. John June 17 1842 and Margaret about 1846. They arrived here around 1849 and lived in Bennington VT and settled in NY.

Hopeing someone might know something about this family.

  • Michele:

No problem with the duplicate post. Sometimes our system is slow and people tend to hit the post button a second time. Looks like you changed the title to show Reddington on this message.

    Hi Michele,

Here is a screenshot of the parish register recording their marriage in Clonfert Loughrea on May 6th 1841. The two names underneath look like relatives names.

I also attach a screenshot of a loan within the parish. YIt uses the Anglican parish name rather than the Catholic name. I suspect it is the same Andrew Silk. The x between the first and second name means he did not sign his own name. He is offering security for the loan. I have to upload files separately.

Here is a link to the parish register that you can look through to find other baptisms.https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0329

    Hi Michele,

Here is a screenshot of the loan transaction. This would have been part of the famine relief.

  • Hi Anne,

Thank you for that information. I am guessing that Daniel Silk is related to Andrew. Just wish it said who he was, the same with Margaret. Andrew and Margaret left Ireland and went to Bennington VT. where there is a James Silk in the same town. In fact they are listed on the same census living right next to each other. I would guess also that they are related, just haven't found proof. Jame's parents are James and Mary Cassiday from the same area as Andrew and Margaret. Andrew, born in 1809, James in 1820. Might be to big of a gap for brothers? Then Andrew and Margaret moved to Liberty, NY where there is a family of Reddingtons. James and his family stayed in VT.

So the search goes on, thanks again.
