I have looked for the marriage of my Great Grandfather Patrick Halloran to Catherine Lydon in probably 1856 without success.  I'm wondering what years are covered in Oughterard parish?  And/or if married by a traveling priest in Rosmuc, would the marriage have been recorded in the Diocese offices?  Baptisms for Rosmuc didn't start until 1840 and no marriages were recorded that I can find.  Where would they then have been married?

  • Hello Jim,

Off-hand I would say if they were from/living in the Oughterard region then their marriage should be recorded under that parish/diocese (Rosmuc is also within the Kilcummin parish so I see no reason why they would have been recorded under any other location). I will do some further investigation however and get back to you as soon as I have more information.

  • Paul,

Thanks for your note.  My Great Grandparents were from West Island and members of Rosmuc parish.  Their oldest child Mary was baptized in Rosmuc parish on 2 Mar 1857.  So their marriage must have been about May 1856 or a bit earlier.

Appreciate any further insight or results from Kilcummin Parish.

    Jim
