Hi I have include a picture of the Bourke headstone at the Calvary Catholic Cemetary in Chicago.   It reads,  " In Memory of Mary wife of JD Bourke of Abington, Limerick, Ireland Sept 24 1873 Died 54 years. Also Thomas son of JD and Mary Bourke Died November 26 1868 13 years 6 mos. This is  where my Great Great Great Grandmother Catherine Bourke 1857-1931 is buried along with several other Bourkes. It has taken us along time to determine where the Bourkes from my mothers side where from, but we believe very strongly they are from the townland of Abington and Murroe Catholic Parish. Can you assist in determining Mary Bourkes surname, marraige record  or other ways to identify her and JD Bourke?  Please stay in touch! David BrownInline image 1

  • Hi Aine

Yes, "JD" stands for James Daniel. We believe they emigrated in the early 1860's. Thomas was born in America and there were other children, Catherine being one of them.

Also, did you say you cant see the photos?

    Thanks

  • I have seen this mistake a few times where the name of either the bride or groom is different to that on their children baptismal records. it hard to say for definite which is correct .It can be a bit confusing

Nope there are only 2 children recorded to them . They prob had there children after they left Ireland.

Just to let you know that we are currently recording the graveyard in abington and we came across a pre 1800  Bourke  gravestone alon with a few others.they  will be avaiable to be searched over the next few weeks. so keep an eye out!

also i think there is fairly old burke heastone in clonkeen graveyard also available on the same site.

  • Dear IrelandXO,

While traveling from the USA through the area of Adare Ireland a few years ago one of my Irish cousins brought me to the old Churchyard at Adare Manor Golf Club. The Old Parish Church grounds on the property of the Adare Manor are now a family buring place for the Quin family.  They showed me a tomb stone attached to the Old Parish Church and said this is our Irish family my great great great grandfather.  The name Pat Quain (died 1809) is on the stone which is my name Pat Quain.  I have wondered how my family is in the family burial site with the Quin's?

If anyone has a family tree that provides a connection between the Quin's and Quain's I would love to see it.  My wife Donna and I plan to travel to Ireland and would like to know more about the Quain's that lived in Ireland, especially around Limerick.

  • Hi Patrick

Murroe is a completely different parish to Adare and in another part of Limerick , you might have more luck if you post you query on the Adare Parish page.
