HI, attached is a picture of my great grandmother Mary Carr.  Mary's birth is in the Parish of Kilmore with a birth date of 4th April 1859.  Mary was born at Lisnamandra, the oldest child of Thomas Carr and Margaret McSherry (McSharry).  Mary arrived in Sydney in January 1877 after being sponsored by her uncle Patrick McSherry. I am trying to find Thomas and Margaret's birth and marriage records, does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find these?  Thanks Trudi

Wonderful picture of Mary Carr. Can you add her story to our XO Chronicles site?

The Kilmore RC baptismal records start in 1859 and marriage records also start in 1859. So if Margaret and Thomas were from that parish a baptismal record would not exist.

There is a potential that Margaret was from Co. Leitrim since McSharry is very common in that county but I did not find the marriage record in Leitrim.

  • Hello Roger

I can certainly put something together and add Mary's story.  I do have a few more photos that I can add as well, is there a limit? As I also have a photo that is probably one of Mary's sisters but there is no name on the back but it would be nice to give her a name (i realise that is a long shot).

Thanks for the info on the dates for the records, so that seems to be as far back as I can go with official documentation as Margaret is on the 1821 census, living with her family at Monnery Upper, still in Kilmore.

    Regards

    Trudi

No limit on the number of ancestors you can add.
