Mary Jourdan, Limerick

I am searching for Mary Jourdan who, according to her marriage certificate, was born in Limerick in 1821.Parish not known. Her father was named as Daniel Jourdan (labourer)

She was married in Aldgate, London in 1840 and apart from having 6 daughters to this marriage, this is all the information I have of her. Any help would be so much appreciated.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and the earliest Mary Jordan/Jourdan baptismal record with father Daniel in Co. Limerick was in 1834. Likely your Mary was baptized in a  parish which no longer has records back to 1821. You may want to add Mary's emigration story to our XO Chronicles site  https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database

I checked the 1859 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Limerick and there were three Daniel Jordan records. If Mary's father was still living and leasing land, he may be one of the three below. The highlighted entries are the twonland followed by the civil parish.

  • Hi Roger

Thank you so much for your efforts searching for Mary Jourdan/Jordan. The three Daniel Jordans you found give me something to continue looking for. It is so difficult when you have so little information about them!!

I feel as though I do not have enough information about Mary to add her to your XO Chronicles. I have been searching for years and never found any records of her, or her family ever emigrating to New Zealand. Her husband, Jeremiah Donohue and one daughter, Catherine, just mysteriously appeared here, Catherine married my Gt Grandfather. Then, years later I found the deaths of 2 other daughters  who had been living in the same town as Catherine. All so complicated. I am beginning to think the daughters may have been in Australia first, so no looking there.

Anyway, thank you again, I do appreciate what you have found.

    Regards

    Katie.

  • Early records show Jourdan no Daniel……but ….Jordan Daniel in Mahoonagh, Limerick.

6th entry up from the bottom of the page.

This is a marriage of a Daniel Jourdan …32 years in 1875 so born about 1843. Poss. brother or relative of Mary.

  • Thank you so much Margot. What you have found is very interesting and yes, possibly a relative of Mary. Mary was born around 1821, so there would too much of an age gap for this Daniel to be her brother. She was married in 1840. Maybe she did have a brother called Daniel and the one you found is his son?? I know she must have had siblings and would love to find them, but all so difficult!

Very interesting to look at the sites you gave me too!

    Thanks again,

    Katie.
