Thanks
I am look for information on Mary A Spellman, born in County Galway around 1845 and died there in 1991. She was married to Peter Kelly of Doonaun, County Galway and had eight kids. I know a lot about the Kellys past and present and nothing about the Spellmans. He dad may have been Dominic but I am not sure. Can anyone help?

Bob:
The couple was married on January 15 1863 in Kiltullagh RC parish. Unfortunately, civil registration started in 1864 for RC marriages and fathers names are shown on the registration.
The subscription site Roots Ireland for some reason does not have Kiltullagh baptismal records until 1884. However, the NLI parish register site has Kiltullagh baptismal records starting June 25 1844. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0102 I would suggest that you search the register for a baptismal record for Mary around 1844-1845.
I did not see a Dominick Spellman/Spelman record in the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Galway.
I also looked at the civil death records on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie I found a possible lead (see sixth record)
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…
The informant was a Mary Spelman who was a daughter in law. Maybe married to a brother of your Mary.

Bob, Roger,
If you do a search by parish, the records before 1884 don't show, but if you search by county, thet do. Some anomaly there!
See attached a marriage record for Mary Spellman and Peter Kelly. The record shows Peter Kelly is shown as from Kiltullagh. If Mary Spellman was shown as from Kiltullagh it would be more understandable as a wedding generally took place in the brides parish. It culd be a mistake as there doesn't seem to be that information in the actual record. I couldn't find any other record in Galway for a marriage between Mary Spellman and Peter Kelly.
As for births, there is a birth of Margaret to Peter Kelly and Mary Spellman in 1864 in Galboley (Kiltullagh parish). The birth is registered in Bullaun, which is by far the nearest church.
Peter and Mary from Doomaun didn't have a Margaret, and there first child was in 1866. Is it possible that Peter and Mary moved from Galboley to Doonaun, which is not that far away?
The death Roger refers to is given as Raford, which is the next townland to Galboley. In fact, people from Galboley would often say they were from Raford.
If you think Peter and/or Mary may be from Kiltullagh get back to me as I have alot more information about Kiltullagh, my home parish.
Best wishes, Kieran Jordan

Thanks for your quick responses. Obviously there was a typo in my query. Mary Spellman died in 1911 not 1991. I will check the sources you all recomended and follow up here again!
