Looking for information on Matthew Gilroy. Born approximately 1820 left for US in 1840s. Cannot find any ship information or Ireland information but at one time Navan may have come up. Married a Bridget Mulvaney in the US shortly after arriving so she may be from same area.

  • Kilroy:

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find any Matthew Gilroy baptismal records anywhere in Ireland in the 1820s. There was a Matthew Kilroy baptized in the Ballygar RC parish on February 22 1821 father Martin Kilroy mother Mary Loughan.

There are Bridget Mulvany baptismal records in Co. Meath in the 1820s but none in Navan.

  • Thanks for your help. I really have hit a dead end here. Add to my problem, there were two Matthew Gilroy's   They both lived in Newark, New Jersey, about three blocks from each other. One illiterate the other could at least sign his name. Both worked with leather, one a hat maker the other a tanner. And both married a woman named Bridget. They were naturalized at about the same time also. We think ours was the illiterate one. We can't find any record of their arrival through ships records. We just don't know what to do next and are grasping at straws. Ancestry. Com dna puts me in your area. My mom who has since passed mentioned Cavan just once. I went there a few years back and they had no records of Matthew I'd Bridget. Looking into County Meath I saw Navan and thought she may have heard it wrong so I tried you. Again thanks for your efforts.
