Seeking information about the parents and Irish origins of Maurice Thomas Nelligan, born about 1810 in Kerry, possibly somewhere in the Dingle area.  Possible parents are John Nelligan and Bridget Murphy, but I have no further info about them.  Emigrated to the Frampton, Quebec region in the early 1830s and married Margaret Duff (originally from Wexford) there in 1835.

I am fairly certain he's not recorded in any surviving documents (except in Canada), so this is really an appeal for assistance from anyone with local knowledge of the Nelligans from that era.

Thanks in advance.

  • With assistance received from a newly discovered cousin on the Nelligan branch of my tree, I have learned that the home territory of John Nelligan and Bridget Murphy was in the townland of Ballinvownig in the Civil Parish of Garfinny.  That is roughly 2 miles east of the town of Dingle in Kerry.  I'm sharing that information here for the benefit of any other Nelligan researchers who may happen to look at this post.
