  • Hi Nola,

My sincere apologies on the delay getting back to you on this, entirely my fault as admin were very good to point me towards this query a while ago and I have been busy making progress on research and updating your Ancestor Chronicle for Michael McCool, however I just forgot to reply to this message sooner and tell you about my efforts to date, thank you for your patience.

Back as far as 2016 you submitted a similar query regarding Michael McCool and Francis Kearney. Elvyn was able to help out at the time. She informed you of the availability of a Civil Marriage Record for Michael and Francis and how you might go about acquiring it at the time, unfortunately, Elvyn would not have means to try and connect you to persons from that area of interest in North East Donegal.

What I have been able to do since, is to source this record for you directly from the irishgeneoloy website and place it alongside your family locations while I was updating your Ancestor Chronicle for Michael McCool that can be found here:

    https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database/michael-mccool-1

I will not lie, it did take me a long while to figure out these locations transcribed on the Marriage Record, but managed it in the end. If you click on the Links further down in the Michaels Profile you will be able to see Google Maps links that will take you directly to the townland of Tiernaleague, (or CLICK HERE ) where Michael McCool would have been born.

The google map location links for Mullins, Carndonagh, (or CLICK HERE) where Francis Kearney would have been born has been added, as well as an interesting link to the Find A Grave Webpage CLICK HERE and a historical picture of Carndonagh used for his profile picture.

The reason behind why I did this,  is that I think if we were to share Michael McCools profile and Message Query on one of the local Carndonagh Facebook pages that I might know of, there may be be a good chance of someone living in or from the locality replying to us and hopefully sharing their knowledge of any potential McCools or Kearney relations that may still be living there in their community.

How might you feel Nola about using Facebook as a tool to see how we might progress further..

Kindest regards Seamus Callaghan (Kerrykeel, North Donegal)

  • Thank you ,Seamus , for your assist. I have hard time understanding this site. I hope to have 1 of my children help. I long ago decided not to use Facebook but am sure they will .Was happy to have my grandparents marriage cert(when I was @ Sacred heart Church several years ago they indicated records were lost in fire?)I was able to go around cemetery by church & saw many McCool,Kearney & Doherty headstones but didn't have enough info to contact anyone .A Michael McClure(had bar on Bridge st)tried to help us & took us to a McCool who lived outside town but that was her married name & she did not have any family info.

I hope to make another trip before I GET MUCH OLDER!(I'm 80)so thought I'd try to get more info to try to connect with a few relatives(my husband's family is in Kerry so go there every few yrs). Thanks again for your help. Please keep in touch. If there is info, that is not on this site, please let me know.

    Nola(McCool) McGillycuddy

P.S.  I live in St. Charles Mo which is sister city to Carndonagh(they recommended this site)

  • Hi Nola,

I am glad you are happy so far. I have a family holiday coming up, but after this I will do more work researching McCool and Kearney families that would have been living in these areas back in the 1901 and 1911 Census. With any luck we will be able to connect back further to families in the 1850's !830's. Whenever we have built a clearer picture of the family we will progress this further by advertising it and see if any locals would be aware of McCool and Kearney families still living within carndonagh. All the best for now, Seamus

  • Hi Nola,

I am sorry I didn’t get back to you at the time. I was aware that a Edward O'Malley Buckley, who is apparently related to the Kearneys from Tiernaleague, Carndonagh had got in contact with you via the Irelandxo Profile for Michael McCool (1850).

    https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database/michael-mccool-1850

Some of the information he shared regarding parents of Michael McCool seemed to be slightly conflicting with yours and I honestly did not know how to progress further because in this timeframe of 1850’s there are very little records available to verify if his or your information might be true or false.

I am curious to know what you might think of his information verses your information and how might you want to go forward.

    Kind Regards Seamus
