Patrick Mcdonnell born abt 1848 in Castlebar according to a UK census. He emigrated to the USA where he married in New York but a couple of years later returned to England. I can find no record of his birth or his family., any help would be appreciated.

I looked on the subscription site Roots Ireland and there are four Patrick McDonnell baptismal records around 1848 in the Castlebar RC church records. One in 1844, two in 1850 and one in 1853. You will need more information to determine if any of these records pertain to your ancestor. Your Patrick may have been from a nearby parish but used Castlebar as his place of origin because it was the nearest big town. I assume his death record or obituary do not provide parental info? Have you considered DNA testing?
