My husband John and I will be visiting Dublin 26-28 April 2019. My great grandfather Samuel Bailey of 23 D'Olier St married Mary Frances McEvoy (b. 25 Aug 1853). Her parents were James McEvoy and Sarah Maher Irelandxo has already helped us with information about Samuel Bailey. I would be grateful for additional information about Mary McEvoy and her parents. Also, it would be grand to have the chance to meet any descendants of these characters during our visit to Ireland. Thank you for any assistance!                  (Mary McEvoy Bailey emigrated to the US when her husband Samuel passed away. She lived in the Chicago area with her son, my grandfather, Joseph Bailey.)

No McEvoys, Maikers or Mahers in the 1851 Census

Griffiths Valuation 1848 to 64 has lots of McEvoys but I can't seem to get access to it now! It's free at www.askaboutireland.ie

The Irish phone book www.118.ie/ - select people search - has no Maikers in Dublin or Kildare but has 5 Mahers in Kildare & 197 in Dublin! There are 78 McEvoys in Dublin & 3 in Kildare

  • Col, Thank you very much for this! I think you're probably correct about the transcription error. 'Maher' makes sense. I appreciate your help. Seán
