Hello

My wifes 5X great grandparents are John McKague born about 1754 and Jane Wilson born about 1774 in County Cavan (possibly Bailieborough) and we believe they were married about 1790. They had 7 children born in County Cavan: Anna 1791?, Rebecca 1800?, her 4X great grandparent John McKague born1801? who Married Nancy McIndoo who was born in 1813 in Rooskey, Bailieborough in County Cavan parents William and Nancy McIndoo, Elizabeth 1802?, George 1810?, Mary 1811?, William 1812? and two born in Canada Jane in 1821 and Robert born in 1822. So I believe they imigrated to Canada between 1812 and 1821 where they settled at Cherry Hill Farm in Northumberland County, Ontario.

We don't know much else of our Irish roots and we are planning on visiting Ireland and would love to see the areas where they come from. Any help in researching the above named would be greatly apprciated.

Thank you

  • Don,

I might be of some assistance. I have emailed a McKeague descendant living in Bailieborough notifying him of your post and sent the link to the forum. Hopefully he will make contact on this page.

  • Hello Don,

Greetings from County Cavan and thanks to Yvonne (clonbroneyite) for alerting me to your post. I suspect the McKague ancestors you seek lived in the Parish of Knockbride, Bailieborough. I grew up in the townland of Cullies in the Parish of Knockbride where I have traced my ancestors back to the late 1700s. It was possible to do so because they attended Corraneary Presbyterian Church and its baptismal records go back to 1764. The baptismal records of the neighboring church at Corglass only go back to 1861. Many commence 1845 or later. Apart from my McKeague family who lived at Cullies I do know there were also McKague/McKeague's living in the townland of Ardmone near Canningstown, I think they may have attended Corraneary Church. Another family lived in the townland of Beglieve which is closer to Bailieborough, they attended Corglass Church. I do not know if all of these families were related and I don't have very much information on any of the families mentioned apart from my own. I did extract all variations of the name from Corraneary Church records so I will have a look at those again. There are no marriage registers in the area going back to 1790, most of them commence 1845 or later. When you come to visit I will gladly show you around the area. Regards, Leslie McKeague
