My family emigrated to Australia in the late 1800's and early 1900's from Gort. They had a shop on the square in Gort. I have a fairly extensive family tree but would like to confirm some of the links.

Hello Sister,
I was aware of John Glynn and have previously been in contact with him. He tells me that he and his son are the last McMahon Glynn's in Ireland.
There are quite a number in Australia. I am the grandson of Dr. Robert McMahon Glynn who emigrated from Gort along with his brothers Patrick and Eugene.
I was just curious if there were any other related families (Walsh's for example) still in the Gort area. Roberts mother was Ellen Glynn nee Walsh. You may already know that Ellen's sister Grace came out to Australia as a young girl and joined Mary McKillop (founder of the Joshephites) and went on to become Mother Superior of that order as Mother Bernard.

Hello Maurice
Yes I'm one of the Geraldton Glynns.
Are you on Facebook? If so, send me a 'friend request' via the link above and I will put you in contact with John McMahon Glynn in Dublin. John is quite a keen family historian and has put together a fairly extensive family tree. I believe he and his brother (and their families, are the only McMahon Glynns still in Ireland) However, there must be other associated families such as the O'Donnells still there. Johns grandfather was James who was the younger brother of Patrick, Eugene and Robert and he remained in Ireland when those three emigated. Their sister Elizabeth married a Thomas O'Donnell (I think).
I have seen a press clipping about the proposed statue of Patrick and from memory it was the local Rotary Club in Gort that was pushing it.

Hello, We are in California. My husband's grandfather was James Martin Glynn from Gort, part of the McMahon Glynn family, nephew or great nephew to Patrick McMahon Glynn and Sir Joseph Glynn. My adult children just left visiting Gort and will be in Dublin in a few days. If you get this message in a timely manner can you help me get in touch with John McMahon Glynn out there? I discovered him from reading his article of the Glynns of Gort in the Guaire: http://www.guaire.org/uploads/2/5/1/3/2513401/guaire_2006_issue_30.pdf
Copy and past the link for a fascinating article on the family dating back to 1600s.
Thank you,

Hi,
I'm the daughter of Robert Maurice McMahon Glynn (dec) who was born in Adelaide South Australia and moved to Geraldton Western Australia with his wife and oldest two kids in 1970. He took over his Uncle Patrick McMahon Glynn's law firm in Geraldton. My grandfather was Maurice Robert McMahon Glynn of South Australia. I understand that Patrick McMahon Glynn the Australian politician was (I think) my grandfather's uncle.
I'm Susan Mortimer of Albany Western Australia on Facebook if you want to connect.

Hello Susan,
Dad’s name was actually Denis McMahon Glynn, although for some obscure reason he was always known as Paddy.

Hello Michael,
Ahh I forgot his name was Dennis as I only ever heard him called Paddy. I have fond memories of your farm house, your dogs, your turkeys and feeding apples to your horses and tasting molasses. I hope you and all your family are well.
Regards,
Susan Mortimer
