I am looking for information on Edward Sweeney/McSweeney and family.  He died in Canada in 1835, and his will states that he was born in Monasterevin about 1779.  He married Rose Broughall (Broghill, Brogham) and all of their children were born in Monasterevin before the famly emigrated to Canada.  Children were Mary, John, Patrick, Bernard, Catherine, James, Ellen, and Rose.  Rose Broughall was the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (O'Malley) Broughall, and her baptism was at St. Nicholas Church in Dublin.  Have not found their marriage date and place, presumably about 1795, either in Dublin or Monasterevin.  Any clues or information very much appreciated.  Thank you!

  • Do you know what part of Canada?  The Sweeney name was common in New Brunswick, Canada.  The areas I am familar with are Restigouche and Gloucester counties.  I know there was a Sweeney who married and Doyle then moved to Washington State USA - Friday Harbor I believe.  Could not pull out her first name but may have been Mary.   I believe this would have been in the later half of the 1800s.
