Good Morning: I would like to get the medical records for my paternal grandmother Christina Mulholland Marnell, who died at Mater Hospital in Belfast on January 7, 1917. I have her death certificate but would like her medical records when she was an inpatient or outpatient. She died of a Liver tumor, age 34. I sent an email to Mater Hospital but they said to contact medial legal services at belfasttrust.hscni.nt. I emailed them last Friday but have not heard back yet. Did I contact the right place?

If the records still exist they should be in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. Probably in the HOS series of records. They won't be available on line so you would either need to go in person or pay a researcher to do that for you.

Dear Elwyn: Thank you so much for replying to me. I'll try to get a researcher. Is the belfasttrust.hscni.nt the same as PRONI (records). I sent an email to beflasttrust.hscn.nt and someone emailed me back and want me to fill out a form for Access To Deceased Records. I will do that. Any other thoughts you have are appreciated.

PRONI (the Public Record Office) and the Health Trusts are different organisations. Basically, the hospitals keep the records for as long as they need them and then send them to the Public Record Office (PRONI). You have been in contact with the health trust. I don’t think they have the records you need. They will be with PRONI. PRONI will do simple look-ups for you (at a price). But they won’t do trawling searches. You might be better off with a professional researcher. Researchers in the PRONI area:
