I am looking for siblings of Michael Courtney/Curtny who lived in Meelin near Annascual until around the time of the famine when they immigrated to Canada and eventually Michigan in the USA.  He was likely born in the 1790's.  He married a Margaret Welch/Walsh and their children were Daniel born 1819 Michael born 1833, Martin born 1830, John born 1840, Patrick, and Johanna.

I believe looking at the Tithe records from 1824 and the 1853 Griffiths records that the surname was either Cunane or Cournane in Ireland. RC baptismal records for Ballynacourty parish start in 1829 so there would be no baptismal record for Michael. Can you clarify if the marriage and the children's births occurred in Canada or Michigan. I'm not finding any records on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie

  • The name was recorded on the baptismal record as Curtny but you are correct it is also found spelled as you show. Michael and Margaret were married in Ireland and all the children listed were born there as well.

www.irishgenealogy.ie and have not located the marriage record or baptismal records. Here is a link to the Annascaul parish register  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0647  As you can see from the index, baptismal records are available from April 1829 to March 1834 and pick up in March 1837 thru Marcg 1839 and then a larger gap until October 1851. Possibly the younger children were baptized in the gap periods.
