Hi

I'm looking for a marriage record for a Michael Dowling & Bridget Doyle. I have followed the lines on from their 5 children. The 5 children; Patrick, John, Nicholas & Mary Anne were born in Martinstown, Co. Kildare, and baptised in Suncroft, Co. Kildare.

I believe Bridget Doyle to be from Co. Carlow originally. But I can't find her baptismal record. I believe her parents are Patrick Doyle and Anne Brien. I found the baptismal record of 2 of her brothers (but there are more siblings). Thomas Doyle baptised 1858 in Rathvilly, Co. Carlow & Michael in 1856 also in Rathvilly, Co. Carlow. In the 1911 Cenus, Michael Dowling and Bridget Doyle's daughter Mary Anne is living in Rathvilly, Co. Carlow with her uncles Thomas Doyle & John Doyle, and a cousin.

I have looked at the parish records for Rathvilly, and I can't find either a birth record or marriage record for Bridget Doyle. I don't know anything about her husband Michael, except that he worked as a farmer and died before 1901 (its recorded he is deceased on Nicholas's marriage record). So there would be no record of him in the 1901 Census. I can't find Bridget Dowling nee Doyle in the 1901 Census either, so she may be dead by 1901 too. However I can't seem to find any death records for either Michael or Bridget, between the birth of their daughter in 1873 up to 1901 (although Bridget may have died after 1901)

Any help in finding a marriage record for Michael Dowling & Bridget Doyle would greatly help, I have checked Suncroft parish, where their children are baptised - except their eldest son Patrick - not sure where he is baptised this is his civil birth record https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…. I have also checked Rathvilly, Co. Carlow & Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow, and as far as I can see there is no record.

Or even help finding a baptismal record for Bridget Doyle, probably born in 1840's in Co. Carlow??

Also I can't seem to find the parish of Suncroft, Co. Kildare to link to this message?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I think I located the baptismal record for Bridget on the subscription site Roots Ireland. See below. First name of mother is not shown.

I was not able to find the marriage record.

I also could not find death records. However, as of now the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie only has death records images from 1879-1966. We expect more images in the near future. There are some Michael Dowling death index records in the Athy registration district in the 1870s.

  • Thank you this is great. I couldn't make it out myself from the Nli Parish records. Would it be possible for you to check for a Mark Doyle and a John Doyle with the same parents - Patrick Doyle and Anne Brien. I think they are both youger than Bridget.

My problem with Michael Dowling is I don't know what age he was when he died, or even if he died before his wife. From the records I have looked at on the Irish Geneology Website, none of them seem to fit. Also like you pointed out he may have died between 1873 and 1879, and I can't see those records. But now that I have a baptismal record for his wife it should help me to hopefully narrow down her death record, and subsequently Michael Dowlings.

    Much appreciated

I located John. See below. Did not see Mark. Rathvilly covered areas in Carlow and Wicklow.

  • Thank you that is great! I wonder can you find the baptism record for Patrick Dowling. His civil birth record incorrectly has his name spelled Doolan, born 25 jan 1865. Gormanstown, Kilcullen is listed as place of birth, with Michael Dowling his father's address noted as Martinstown, Ballysax. So his baptism record should between Dec 1864 to Feb 1865. I have checked the Suncroft parish which is where the baptismal records of his siblings all are, but he isn't there.

I checked Roots Ireland for all of Ireland and also looked at the Suncroft register and no luck finding a Patrick Dowling record.

  • Thanks so much, you have been a great help. Could you possibly check to see if there are any other baptismal records for the children of Patrick Doyle and Anne Brien in Rathvilly Carlow?

I now have Bridget (b.1838) & John (b.1851) - Thanks to you and I also have Michael (b.1853) and Thomas (b.1858). Its just there is a 20 year age gap between Bridget born 1838 and Thomas in 1858. They definitely have a son named Mark/Marcus (who you have searched for before) - He dies in Dublin in 1893 aged about 50 https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

Out of the siblings I do know, Bridget and Mark are the only ones to get married, and Mark is the only marriage record I found. Since his wife is from Dublin he gets married in Dublin https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…

It would be great to see if Bridget Doyle had any other siblings. Possibly a sister named Mary, as Mary Doyle is a baptismal sponsor for Patrick Dowling, in the last baptismal record you found.

    Thanks again for your help

Found a Margaret. See below. There was a Mary Doyle in Borris but the mother was Mary Bryan so I discounted the record.

  • Update:

I have narrowed down Michael Dowling's Death window to between 1872 - 1876. Which is unfortunatley means I can't find his death record on www.irishgenealogy.ie

Right, you will need to wait. We are expecting to see more marriage records shortly but they have not given any date for when death records prior to 1878 will be added.

Thanks Roger, you have been a great help :)
