Hello
I am researching the O'Brien side of my family, and I am now stuck as I don't know much about this side of the family.
They came from Tipperary, Waterford and Cork areas
My Great grandfather was John O'Brien born 1875 - married a Mary Healey, but I have not been able to find any marriage records or birth records for their children, namely my Grandfather Edmund who was born in 1922. (I have seen other records that Mary's surname could be Landers or Halley)
Michael O'Brien born C1844 -(I have not been able to find a birth record) married Johanna Murray, but other trees advise that he also married a Margaret Barry/Carroll, would you have any info about this? Also who Michael's parents could be.
Any help would be appreciated as I cannot go back any further than the 1800's
Thank you for your time
KR

Terri:
There is an 1871 civil marriage record in Co. Waterford for a Michael O'Brien and Johanna Murray which is the record you are looking for.
See third record.
They had a son John born June 1 1875
See next to last record
Besides John, they had at least seven other children: Margaret 1872 Michael 1873 William 1877 Mary 1879 Bartholomew 1883 Bartholomew 1885 Bridget 1886 (it appears the 1883 Bartholomew died young.

Hi Roger
Thank you so much for the quick response.
You have given me some extra information for my tree - thank you.
Are you able to find out if Michael O'Brien was married twice - another wife called Margaret - I think this would have been his first marriage going by info on other family trees that I have seen, but I dont know if this info is correct, which then creates a chain reaction where everyone is using the same info on their trees, which could be wrong.
I am having difficulty finding birth records for Michael - when looking at records on genealogy sites, there are a lot that come up for Australia & USA but hardly anything for Ireland. Is it possible that he could have been born outside of Ireland?
On the marriage record to Johanna - it says his fathers name is also Michael, but without his Mothers name I am not able to progress further back which I am keen to do.
I would be so grateful for any further information that you could give me.
Have a lovely day

On the subscription site Roots Ireland I located a civil marriage record on October 19 1893 between Michael O'Brien age 50 widower and Margaret Barry 39 widow. They both lived in Lismore. Father of Michael was Michael. Father of Margaret was Patrick Fitzgerald. For some reason, I can't find the civil marriage record on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie Likely misfiled or listed under a different name.
It will be difficult finding a baptismal record for Michael O'Brien. Roots Ireland has 22 Michael Brien/O'Brien baptismal records in Co. Waterford from 1840-1845. None of the records were in Lismore RC church.

On the IrishGenealogy the marriage is indexed as Michael O'Brien & Margaret Fitzgerald, they have indexed her using her maiden / birth surname - see entry 200 on the register page

Good evening - Thank for your replies.
I dont think the Michael O'Brien I am researching re-married- as his wife Johanna Murray/O'Brien died in 1914, so Michael would not have been a widow if he remarried in 1893. So I think I can remove that part of my tree.
Their son John, are you able to assist with his wife's name - again I have seen different names on other trees supposedly being a match on the sites I am on. I have seen Mary Healy/Halley/Landers amongst other names.
Again thank you so much for your assistance, you have been a great help

Thanks for finding that marriage record. I guess I did not think out of the box.

I will try to find John's marriage using those names. I did look yesterday but there are so many John Brien/O'Brien marriages.

I searched thru the civil birth records and found eight children. The records stop in 1921 so no Edmund. The oldest five children showed mother as Mary Healy and then the last three show Mary Landers??

Oh wow - you have been great - I had a feeling it was Mary Landers, one of her brothers on a tree I matched with lists her brother as Edward Landers "Healy", so perhaps they had a step parent?
I wonder how you are able to find these records so quickly? I have spent hours looking on my tree sites and Irish genealogy site without finding anything.
Do you have any hints and tips?
Thank you so much for your help

Terri:
For births 1901-1921, the maiden name of the mother is shown on the index records. So even though there were 357 O’Brien birth records in Lismore registration district for that period, I was able to move thru and pick out the Healy and Landers records.

Hello, nearly a year later and I have found a DNA match who has confirmed that Michael did marry a Margaret Barry (nee Fitzgerald ) - I also know that they had two sons called Maurice & Patrick - there are probably more children.
I have searched various sites for records and also the 1901 & 1911 census and have not been able to find anything in relation to the new family.
Can you please help?
Thanks in advance

See my August 9 2022 response and this response from Shane Wilson
A son Patrick was born in 1898 but Roots Ireland stops in 1900. I would look on irishgenealogy.ie for Maurice and other possible children. Look for records in the Lismore registration district
