Good morning,

I tried this a year or so ago but was unable to find any information so I am trying again. I'm trying to find an ancestor as I have hit a road block in my family tree.

I have limited information to work with.

What I know:

Michael Ryan 1824 -  11/25/1890 born in Ireland, died and is buried in East Liverpool, Ohio. Married to Honora Mary or Mary Honora) Carney 1829 - 04/16/1891. She was also born in Ireland and died and is buried in East Liverpool, Ohio. All of thier children were born in Ohio. The three areas that they were born/lived/died are East Liverpool, Wellsville and Yellow Creek. All are buried in our family graveyard except for their daughter Catharine who I can't locate.

They had 8 children:

John Martin Ryan 09/07/1851 - 03/21/1934

Bridget Ryan 07/1855 - 1924

William E. Ryan 1857 - 04/22/1900

Margaret A. Ryan 04/1858 - 07/30/1933

Mary Caroline Ryan 08/24/1860 - 08/03/1916

Catherine Ryan 1863 - 1930

Patrick Ryan 06/06/1867 - 11/24/1920

Michael Vincent Ryan 1869 - 02/03/1926

Does anyone know where I can locate more information on Michael and Honora?

I am completely stuck.

Thank you,

Kristeen Ryan

  • Kristeen:

I searched a subscription site and did not find a lead for a Michael Ryan marriage to a Hanora or Mary Carney. Likely they emigrated separately and married in Ohio.

You would need to have parents names to see if a baptismal record might be available.

Have you considered a DNA test? You might have matches with 3rd or 4th cousins who have more info on the origins of your ancestors in Ireland.

  • Kristeen, It's possible you might find more information about Michael and Hanora by looking at the vital and church records for their children.

Sometimes these records simply give "Ireland," as birthplace of the parents. But sometimes they go further, giving a city or county of origin.

Also, godparents at baptisms were often relatives.  So you might want to trace the godparents too.

Did you look for obituaries/death notices for Michael and Honora?  Did you look for news articles about them?  These might mention their home places in Ireland.

Finally, did Michael or Honora have a will? Sometimes wills mention relatives back in Ireland. This might lead you to a place of origin.

I hope something here is helpful. Good luck.
