I could sure use some advice on how to find my elusive grandfather Michael Tobin.
He's a real brick wall! All I know is that he came over to New York area as a boy, and had at least one child James Buchanan Tobin born ca 1862.
I have compiled numerous Michael Tobin references but just can't seem to clearly validate whether he is my kin or not.
My grandfather John M Tobin used to sing It's a long way from tipperary all the time, and later told me his kin came from Cork, but didn't seem to know for sure , or from where.
I'm estimating he was born in Ireland around 1836, but that's just an educated guess. Are there any Tobin names in Ireland Reaching out stories?
Appreciate any guidance you can give me. All the best. Frank T

Frank:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I checked and there are four Tobin listed in the Ancestors section of XO Chronicles. Three in Kilkenny and one in Waterford. See below. I checked the subscription site Roots Ireland and they have 94 Michael Tobin baptismal records from 1831-1841. Also, many parishes do not have records back to the 1830s and not all counties are included in Roots Ireland. The key piece of data that you need is Michael's parents names. Have you considered DNA testing?

Again, Roger many thanks.
I did check out the above but they just don't seem to match(
Michael Tobin Kilkenney DOB Nov 29 died too early.
Patrick Tobin DOB 1839 doesn't fit either unless perhaps he had a sibling Michael who went to America.
The other Ann and Patrick don't seem to fit either:( I'm at my wits end:( Frank T

I am related to a Michael "Mike" Tobin the rumor was he was born in limerick Ireland in 1844. He emigrated to New York and then eventually ended up in Marcus, Iowa. He seemed close with his sisters Family (John & Mary Fenton). He was also buried in the same cemetery as they. They were Catholic farmers. If you have an ancestry test you can look me up and see if we are a a match and line up that way. I do know most of the Tobins in that family emigrated to Canada.
