  • Hi,

Attached records may not be of assistance. Thomas appears to have been baptised as a RomanCatholic?

  • Many thanks for the reply, Marrage looks great. Death records looks like another family, Daughter of W son of W. not Thomas.

The  recorods I have in Canada are 1851, show Mary and Thomas having six childrin...........Walter born 1823 Ireland

                                                                                                                                                                Alicia (Elishia).1829..Ireland

    ............................................................................................................................................................Catherine        1830. Ireland

William John    1833  Ireland     Have the record for him for St Mary's Pro Cathedral Batisamal records

                                                                                                                                                                Thomas            1834  Ireland

    Hi,

Can you let me know if the family of "Thomas Middleton and Mary" were Church of Ireland or Roman Catholic.

Most families named "Middleton" in Ireland were Church of Ireland (Anglican).

The marriage of Thomas Middleton and Mary Middleton in 1819 in Drumcliffe, County Sligo was Church of Ireland.

Thomas is shown as being from the parish of Killasnet which is in the adjoining County of Leitrim, Barony of Rosscloher and Poor Law Union of Manorhamilton. (not too far away!)

In the meantime I will check for the baptisms of the names you have given.

    No charge,

    Best Wishes,

    McCoy

  • McCoy;

Looks like this might be his father, not Thomas and Mary and the Children as they are in Canada in 1851. Seems they arrived around the late 1840's..William John in later life was an Orangeman and a Mason. as well as a hotet owner.

I hope before I die I can pass on the family history, so $500.00 is more thone worth it if for your hard work.

    Many thanks

  • Hi,

The "Thomas Middleton" from the parish of Killasnet is the person who married Mary Middleton in Drumcliffe church in 1819.

Have you any idea as to where he lived in Ireland before he emigrated with his wife and family,

Do you have a copy of his death certificate?  His parents names may be included on the certificate.

Due to the Irish civil war in 1922, many records of the Church of Ireland were destroyed.

There is a record of of a Catherine Middleton being baptised in Crossmolina Church of Ireland, Co. Mayo in August 1st 1830. Parents were Thomas Middleton and Mary Middleton.

The problem here is that in many cases the mothers' maiden name was not entered, just that of the husband. The name "Thomas Middleton" was fairly common in County Sligo'Leitrim in the early 1800's.

You should contact the extended family of Thomas & Mary in Canada. They may have some answers?

    Best Wishes,

  • Hi,

I am unable to advance your queries any further. The family of William John may have more information. According to you he was a Freemason, an Orangeman and a hotel owner, so he would have gained quite an amount of knowledge during his lifetime!

    Best Wishes for the Future,

  • Hi,

I came on this record when on other searches. It may be of interest in relation to the marriage of Thomas Middleton in 1819.

They are Church of Ireland (Anglican)

  • McCoy;

Somehow we have the wrong father here I'm sure , the son says  the father goes to America in 1844 and takes the family bible with him. Then you send me a file that says he dies in Ireland 1854? Now I am really cofused here ,.Is it the same family or just another Middleton .with the same name?

  • Just hoping that you will find a clue as to who is the real "Thomas Middleton" from the various postings. As I have said previously, the name "Thomas Middleton" was quite common in Counties Sligo and Leitrim.  Drumcliffe (Sligo) and Manorhamilton (Leitrim) are only a few miles apart.

There must be some "Middleton" alive today who has a family history in the Counties Sligo or Leitrim.

    Best Wishes,

    McCoy
