Would appreciate any information on the Moylan family around Nenagh?. My ancestor was James Moylan born 1806 in the parish of Ballynaclough ? Tipperary. He immigrated to Australia with his wife and children in 1834.  Moylan does not appear to be a common surname.

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

There is a civil parish in North Tipperary called Ballynaclogh. The RC parish for that area would be Silvermines but records for the parish start in November 1840  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0798 after James and his family left.

There are baptismal records for Moylan children in the 1840s and 1850s in the Silvermines records. Names of the fathers are Martin and Bryan. Possibly they are related to James?

Here is a link to the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ballynaclogh civil parish. There are five Moylan records  https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/tipperary/ballynaclogh.htm

You may want to add James Moylan to our XO Chronicles page  https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database

  • Hi Moylan family:

I have forwarded your query to a Nenagh volunteer and a Silvermines volunteer in the area who will be able to assist you further as they are in the localities.

You should hear from them in the next week or so.

Thank you for your interest in Ireland Reaching Out.

    Kind regards,

    Jane
