I am Steve Keogh from Tennessee.  I am aware of my father's lineage in east County Galway, parish of Fohenagh.  I am aware that my mother's lineage, Mulloy and Mogan, are also from County Galway west of Galway.  Townships are likely Rahoon and Bearna.

The Mulloy's and Mogan's were here in Tennessee by 1860  They were Richard D. and Catherine Mogan Mulloy and were born in 1820 and 1826 according to their headstones here.  We believe Richard had a brother who also brought family to Tennessee, and his father was also named Martin.

I am spending a few days in County Galway in the 2012 Week of the Welcomes and would like to meet anyone who would be willing to help in tracing these names in church or county records.  Thank you, Steve Keogh

  • Clare, I haven't been on XO in a while,. Sorry I missed your reply.  I have found more information on Mulloy in Ireland.  Richard was born in Askeeboy, Rahoon Parish.  He had a sister Honor/Honora shown to be baptised there. Family received assistance in finding the location of Askeeboy, which today is a small encleve of homes on the west of the Rahoon Cemetery, in Galway City.  I now know their father was James Mulloy and their mother Elenor Kelechan.  I am told their church was in Bushypark, which is still in use today.  I could not find any other references to this family.  I am told that the name Kelechan is still in the area.  We were told the Mogan name is not of that church, so it is likely Catherine was from another church nearby.  There are many Mogans that settled here in Nashville. And we assume they are kin.  Thanks for your interest.  I now have an account on Ancestry.com with a good bit of information on those who settled here in the US.  But have hardly scratched the surface on research in Ireland. Of my 32 3rd Great Grandparents, 31 were born in Ireland.

  • Thought I would make a post to update.  I have been in touch with others on Ancestry.com who are also searching for more specific records of Mulloy family in the Rahoon Parish up until 1850, the time that our ancestors left Ireland, specifically, Aiskeeboy, Rahoon,  and other places in the parish.  Any suggestions to help us would be greatly appreciated.
